I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner with experience treating the pediatric population, as well as the mother-baby dyad and perinatal patients. I have worked as a registered nurse at New Alternatives for Children, a medical foster care agency in New York, treating children ages 4-18 in foster care or in danger of being placed in foster care and parents in a prevention program. I performed home visits for children in the agency, and then, once becoming a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (PMHNP-BC), I performed evaluations, medication management and supportive psychotherapy. I also worked with mothers and mothers-to-be during a vulnerable time when they needed extra support and guidance.
In the past several years, I have focused on the perinatal population, providing medication management, evaluation and supportive psychotherapy to women coping with fertility struggles, undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF), pregnancy loss, postpartum depression and anxiety, women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant and patients in peri-menopause or struggling with premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
I am most passionate about women’s mental health. I feel there is a significant gap in the medical/mental health realm in this area and that we currently do not have enough access or research for women in the community who are greatly in need. My ultimate goal is to facilitate an open environment for patients to begin the healing process through pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches.
I like to collaborate with patients on their care. I can use my knowledge and background to provide guidance and professional recommendations unique to my patients’ struggles. I also consider my patients’ wants, needs and goals when determining treatment.
