How to Get Started
Is This Program a Fit for You?
Low-Fee Self-Pay offers a more accessible way to begin care when cost, coverage, or logistics make getting help harder than it should be.
It may be a good fit if you:
- Don’t currently have health insurance or your insurance is inactive
- Have insurance we don’t accept, or your plan does not include outpatient mental health benefits
- Are not currently covered by Medicaid
- Reside in New York or New Jersey
Sessions are provided by pre-licensed clinicians in advanced training who work closely with experienced, licensed supervisors. Regular guidance and case review ensure your treatment is science-backed and well-supported from the very first appointment.
Expert Oversight, Personal Support
Our pre-licensed providers are engaged, thoughtful clinicians who bring training, curiosity, compassion, and intention to their work.

Low-Fee Self-Pay FAQs
What does “self-pay” mean?
Self-pay means you pay directly for sessions rather than billing an insurance company. These appointments are offered at reduced, fixed rates and are not submitted to insurance.
Can I use insurance later?
No. These sessions are always self-pay and cannot be billed to insurance, reimbursed, or submitted as superbills at any point.
If you would like to use insurance, our team can help you explore Rivia Mind services outside of the program.
Is Low-Fee Self-Pay the same as seeing a pre-licensed clinician through insurance?
No. This is a reduced-rate, self-pay program and does not use insurance.
Rivia Mind may also offer services with pre-licensed clinicians that are billed to insurance under a licensed supervisor. Those services are separate from Low-Fee Self-Pay and follow different eligibility, billing, and coverage rules.
How long is a pre-licensed clinician at Rivia Mind?
Our pre-licensed clinicians are with us for 10 months.
Will I be reassigned automatically when my clinician completes their training?
No. We’ll only make changes after discussing them with you first, including exploring new pre-licensed providers and coordinating with your provider’s supervisor to ensure a smooth transition.
What if I don’t want to change providers?
That’s okay. You’re never required to continue care if the available options don’t feel right for you. We’ll help you think through next steps or referrals if needed.
Will my rate change if I switch providers because my provider completed their training?
Possibly. Your rate depends on the provider you choose moving forward. If a change in provider affects pricing, we’ll explain that clearly so you can stay in control of your next steps.
Will I have to switch to a licensed clinician at some point?
Not as long as another pre-licensed clinician is available and appropriate for your needs.
What’s the cancellation policy?
If you need to change or cancel an appointment, email info@riviamind.com or call 212-203-1773. We ask for two business days’ notice to avoid a cancellation fee.
We understand that things come up, and we’ll help you reschedule within the same week when availability allows.
Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
Yes. Many patients use HSA or FSA funds for Low-Fee Self-Pay care. Coverage depends on your individual plan, so we recommend confirming with your provider.
How does privacy work?
We protect your privacy and treat your information with care. Your sessions follow the same confidentiality standards as all Rivia Mind services.
Because pre-licensed clinicians work within a supervised training model, licensed supervisors may review session notes or discuss clinical decisions to support your treatment and ensure quality. Supervisors may join sessions and are subject to the same privacy and confidentiality requirements as your clinician.
We don’t share your information outside the care team without your consent, except when required by law.
Who is eligible for Low-Fee Self-Pay?
Low-Fee Self-Pay is available to patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or have insurance plans that are not accepted by Rivia Mind. Patients enrolled in Medicaid are not eligible for this program. Eligibility is determined by state regulations and Rivia Mind policy.
Which states offer Low-Fee Self-Pay?
Rivia Mind offers Low-Fee Self-Pay care to patients living in New York and New Jersey. Availability may change as licensure and supervision requirements evolve.
Is this the same as standard self-pay services?
No. Low-Fee Self-Pay is a specific reduced-rate program with defined eligibility and availability. Standard self-pay services may be offered separately and follow different requirements.
