I am a psychiatrist with specialties in eating disorders, anxiety and depression. After completing my training, I worked at Newton-Wellsley Psychiatry, an outpatient mental health group practice in Boston. I helped my patients understand the roots of their conditions and learn how to make changes that they felt positive about, often with the help of medications. I also worked at the New York State Psychiatric Institute in the Eating Disorder Unit. There, I worked with patients for several months to help them overcome this challenging illness.
I offer psychotherapy that primarily focuses on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and psychodynamic therapy techniques while engaging in supportive psychotherapy and utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) skills. I have led DBT skills groups in several different settings and completed a fellowship in psychodynamic psychotherapy at the Adams House Fellowship.
I believe that patients have the power to improve their symptoms by changing the way they engage with their surroundings and learning to manage their internal responses. I find it incredibly rewarding to help patients learn these skills and see how it makes them feel more in control and confident in themselves. My hope for patients is that with the help of psychotherapy, often combined with medication, they will be able to decrease their distress and improve their ability to engage with their lives in a fulfilling way. I believe in collaborative treatment and use my expertise to make recommendations, while patients must also be invested in their treatment plan for it to be effective.
