Clinician Spotlight: Lily Farrell, LMSW

Clinician Spotlight: Lily Farrell, LMSW

In today’s Clinician Spotlight, we’re pleased to feature Lily Farrell, LMSW, a therapist dedicated to holding space for complexity, identity, and transformation. Lily brings experience from community mental health, cross-cultural outpatient settings, and sex-positive therapy spaces. Her work centers on creating a therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe exploring vulnerability, patterns, and meaningful change.

Specialty & Approach to Therapy

Lily specializes in working with queer and LGBTQ+ clients, as well as individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, relationship concerns, body image, sexuality, and attachment-related challenges. Drawing from lived experience as a queer woman, she understands that while no two journeys are the same, members of the LGBTQ+ community may face distinct stressors, traumas, and ways of moving through the world that benefit from affirming, informed care.

Her approach blends insight-oriented therapy, including psychodynamic work, CBT, DBT, ACT, and parts work, with body-based, somatic, and trauma-informed modalities such as EMDR. Lily believes emotional, mental, physical, and sexual intimacy are deeply interconnected, and healing involves tending to the whole self. Her therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and deeply respectful, supporting clients in weaving together their internal and external worlds at a pace that honors both care and transformation.

Advice for Those Seeking Mental Health Care

For those seeking therapy for the first time, Lily emphasizes that there is no “right” way to do it. Therapy can take many forms, sometimes comforting, sometimes challenging, and sometimes surprising. Growth and healing are not linear processes, and sessions may not always leave you feeling better in the moment. However, the work is worthwhile. Choosing to pursue therapy reflects a commitment to growth, and that step alone carries meaning.

When choosing a mental health provider, Lily encourages individuals to focus on safety and trust.

“Consider whether you feel comfortable enough to share parts of yourself, to be challenged, and to build something new together, over time. Trust develops gradually, but your instincts matter. The right provider becomes a collaborative partner in deepening your relationship with yourself and the world around you.”

Finding Balance Through Self-Care

Outside of her clinical work, Lily prioritizes intentional pauses and embodied movement. She often ends her workday by sitting quietly for a few moments before transitioning into the evening. Walking, especially in the park, along with yoga or gentle stretching, helps her reset.

She also enjoys cooking, connecting with close friends, watching films, and writing a single line each night in her journal, sometimes reflective, sometimes poetic. These small, grounding rituals support balance and presence in her life.
