This week’s spotlight shines on Andrean “Ann” Hill, LMSW, a compassionate therapist whose warmth and expertise create a transformative space where patients gain empowerment. With her collaborative spirit and deep commitment to her clients’ growth, Ann helps people discover their strength and resilience.
Specialty & Approach To Therapy
Ann partners with adults experiencing a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, panic disorders, schizophrenia, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. She deeply understands how these experiences can ripple through every corner of life, touching relationships, work, and one’s sense of self.
Drawing from evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing, Ann crafts sessions to honor her clients’ unique stories and aspirations. Her therapeutic toolkit is extensive, but her greatest strength lies in knowing which approach will resonate with each individual.
During therapy, she cultivates a space where clients can explore their inner world, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while building healthier coping strategies and emotional regulation skills. “My approach is collaborative, client-centered, and compassionate. I believe in creating a therapeutic alliance and meeting patients where they are so that they feel heard and understood,” Ann explains.
Advice To Those Seeking Therapy
For anyone beginning their mental health care journey, Ann offers a reassuring perspective: Be patient and graceful with yourself. “Taking this step is brave and important, and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. It’s okay not to have all the answers, so ask questions. Give yourself permission to learn as you go. And, most importantly, advocate for yourself. Therapy should be a space where you feel safe and understood.”
Ann understands choosing a provider is personal because safety and comfort are critical. She encourages people to start by reflecting on what matters most — whether that’s cultural understanding, specific expertise, therapeutic style, or scheduling flexibility. Just as crucially, listen to your body during sessions; how you feel makes a big difference in how you’ll receive care.
And don’t get discouraged — she reminds people that finding the right therapist can be a bit like dating. Each provider has their own style, and not every match will spark. If you don’t click, that’s okay, and therapists appreciate the feedback! Collaborative care is a two-way street. What matters is continuing the journey, because your mental health is worth prioritizing.
Finding Balance Through Self-Care
Outside of her clinical work, Ann sees self-care as a way to rebalance and refill her cup. She loves being outdoors (on days the bugs behave), planning her next vacation, following wherever a new research rabbit hole leads, and trying out new activities or restaurants. When she’s ready to truly relax, you’ll likely find her binging reality TV, indulging in ice cream, or channeling her creativity through decorating projects.
We’re grateful to have Ann on the Rivia Mind team. Her ability to blend evidence-based care with compassion and curiosity makes her a trusted partner in supporting clients through the healing journey.
