Clinician Spotlight: Francesca “Cesca” Bottazzi, LMSW

Cesca Bottazzi Clinician Spotlight

This week, we’re excited to spotlight therapist Cesca Bottazzi, LMSW, who specializes in supporting patients navigating depression, anxiety, and gender dysphoria. With an integrative approach that combines psychodynamic therapy, somatic therapy, CBT, and mindfulness, Cesca helps their patients uncover the roots of painful patterns, build coping skills, and reconnect with a stronger sense of self.

Specialty & Approach To Therapy

Cesca works with patients to uncover not only what they are experiencing, but why these feelings and behaviors show up in the first place. Drawing on psychodynamic theory, they help bring the unconscious processes of the mind to the forefront and explore how earlier experiences shape their current thought patterns and emotional responses. From there, they incorporate CBT to bring awareness to how those patterns appear in daily life and to support patients in shifting them toward balance and self-compassion.

Cesca is also passionate about working with patients struggling with gender dysphoria. They note that the distress created by the mismatch between gender identity and sex assigned at birth can be deeply painful, and somatic therapy can be a grounding way to navigate that discomfort. “These feelings can be heavy,” Cesca acknowledges, “but therapy can be a place to tolerate them, process them, and find strength and clarity on your gender journey.”

Advice To Those Seeking Therapy

Starting therapy is often one of the hardest and bravest steps. Cesca commends anyone beginning the process: “Take your time! Every mental health professional is different, even if they operate under the same modality.”

When it comes to finding a therapist, Cesca suggests taking your time and trusting your instincts – ask questions and let the process unfold. “Look for someone you feel understands you and meets you where you are. Ask about their experience with the issues you’re working through, and listen to your intuition. When you find the right fit, you’ll know.”

Finding Balance Through Self-Care

Outside of sessions, Cesca recharges by blending creativity, movement, and connection. Long walks help them decompress after a full day, while spending time with friends and attending community events provides joy and balance. They also love reading, playing video games, and making music on their bass guitar.
