What is Gestalt Therapy?

A psychotherapeutic approach developed in the 1940s, and influenced by Gestalt psychology, Gestalt is a therapy that takes into account the whole individual. The approach asks the patient to focus on their present. What is currently happening rather than dwelling on their past experiences. Moreover, being fully present gives you the ability to take responsibility for your actions and helps you live your life fully and honestly.

The premise of Gestalt therapy is client-centered, holistic and based on client/therapist trust. It gives the client leeway to safely explore their experiences without fear of judgment. It’s also very useful in increasing mindfulness and self-awareness. Consequently, improving your sense of self-control, ability to monitor and regulate emotions, and resulting in improved communication skills.
