August 2023 Newsletter – Sharing the Summer With Rivia Mind

As we move into August, we thank you for sharing this summer with us. The team at Rivia Mind has celebrated summer social events, welcomed new team members, and shared insights with the mental health industry and world at large. Let’s break down the news for the summer so far.

Speaking Insights Across the Internet

Recently, three articles from different sources were released featuring our skilled and compassionate mental health providers. The first came from Matador Network, which featured our co-founder and CEO, Dana Wang, MD in their article, “How To Say Goodbye To Social Media FOMO and Travel For Real.” The Matador Network is a website dedicated to travel, adventure, and curiosity in the world. Dr. Wang was consulted on the psychological science behind the peace that comes with traveling.

In the article, she said, “Traveling can help us zoom out from the minutiae of our lives to refocus on the bigger picture. Social media distracts you by living virtually rather than in reality. You might miss insights that would otherwise come to you.”

Dr. Wang was then featured in an interview with US News & World Report, in an article titled, “How To Adopt a Better Money Mindset.” There, she spoke to the mental and emotional effect that chronic debt can have on individuals, and how difficult it can be to save. “It has to do with discouraging self-talk like, ‘Nothing I do matters that much since I am never gonna get out of debt, so I might as well put more things on that credit card now to enjoy.’” She recommends picturing dropping dollars into an empty bucket, every time you save money, even just a little.

In addition to Dr. Wang’s features, COO, Anthony Motsinger, PhD, was featured in an article by DecisionHealth entitled, “Not just for Pride: LGBTQ outreach improves care, builds patient population.” In the article, Dr. Motsinger discussed the importance of LGBTQ outreach and inclusion throughout the year, not just during Pride month. Affirming mental health care been shown to increase mental wellness in LGBTQ patients as well as building the patient population so that more people receive the help they need.

Welcoming New Members To Our Team

The Rivia Mind team continues to grow! This month, we welcome a new graphic designer and digital asset coordinator, Jaclyn Orange. Jaclyn works with our team to improve and optimize our brand visuals and our digital presence overall.

We also welcomed therapist Jessica Mendez, LMSW, to the team. Jessica is a bilingual therapist who works to offer compassionate and anti-racist care to all clients. She works with both individuals and families dealing with depression, anxiety, women’s issues, divorce, and life transitions.

We’re excited to work with Jaclyn and Jessica and to continue growing our skilled and compassionate Rivia Mind team.

Fall DBT Support Group Has Availability

The fall support group for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is open for patient sign-ups! DBT is an intensive outpatient therapy which involves a combination of individual and group therapy. This fall group will take place between September 20th and January 10th on Wednesdays at 6pm. Rivia Mind Summer Social

Last month, we hosted the annual Rivia Summer Social at Kick Axe Throwing in Brooklyn, New York. Rivia’s services are spread across New York, Connecticut, and Florida, between telehealth and in-person services. That’s why every summer, we like to take time to get together, connect, and have some fun as a team. We had a blast at Kick Axe and we’re excited for next year’s summer social.

Celebrating June Employees of the Month!

Every month, Rivia Mind takes some time to validate and uplift team members who do an exceptional job of modeling our values and care for our patients. We choose one employee from the operations team and one from the clinical team. In June, those employees were Bethany Lambeth, our revenue cycle associate, and Emily Yin, PMHNP-BC, senior nurse practitioner supervisor. Although June has come and gone, we still want to appreciate everything that Emily and Bethany do for us. Thank you!
