Do I Have Adult ADHD?

Do I Have Adult ADHD?

Many adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), go undiagnosed, but the American Psychiatric Association estimates about 2.5% of adults have ADHD.

ADHD Symptoms

Everyone has experienced some of the typical symptoms of ADHD, and it should be diagnosed by a professional, but some symptoms to look for are:

  • Lack of focus — Do you find it hard to follow along when listening to others in conversation, or have trouble completing projects or tasks on time?
  • Hyperfocus — Do you become so engrossed while doing something you become unaware of what’s going on around you?
  • Disorganization— Do you find it impossible to get organized, prioritize or manage your time?
  • Impulsivity — Do you act without considering consequences, constantly interrupt others or rush through tasks?  Are you a habitual impulse shopper?
  • Negative self-image — Are you hypercritical of yourself, or do you have a negative self-image?
  • Restlessness and anxiety — Are you constantly in motion, find it difficult to sit still,  and feel like you can’t shut down? Does not being able to do something you want to immediately cause you anxiety?
  • Physical health concerns  — Are you having trouble maintaining your physical health? Do you feel unmotivated or fatigued? Are you a compulsive eater, or eating even if you’re not hungry?
  • Substance misuse — Do you use alcohol, tobacco or drugs to self-medicate any of the above symptoms?
